Synopsis
In Moddiford Community Hall seven people arrive for a rehearsal of circle dancing to be presented at the harvest supper. Betty is standing in for her caretaker husband, and present are Sue, a doctor’s receptionist, Janice, a young school teacher, and Philip a chef in a pub, Andy, a retired engineer, and ex marine, Barry.
The latter two have been press-ganged by Maureen who is the organiser. As they arrive various tensions are revealed between the group. Sue has brought her belly dancing costume but has forgotten the milk. Betty has bought some knitting from the craft shop where she works. Arguments break out. Maureen arrives full of complaints. Suzie goes into the toilets to change. Barry makes a pass at Janice who is upset. They start to muddle through the dance but the CD player breaks down and fuses the lights. During the blackout Betty is murdered.
In Act 2 a phone call from the hospital reveals Betty was stabbed ... but which of the many weapons available, scissors, knitting needle, knife or screwdriver was used? Slowly, through arguments and discussion, Maureen is uncovered as the killer, an action she took because in her opinion, Betty danced so badly that she would have ruined the display.
