Synopsis

Comedy Play Script: 'Stay'd For' by LJ McTuggleAre occupational skills and religious beliefs any use when an emergency occurs?  A teacher, an unpublished writer, a telecoms salesman and a dental clerk journey from Uxbridge to help a relative in Malaysia move his luxury yacht.

As events unfold we see whether their work experiences and technical skills can extricate them from the yacht marooned in the South China Sea; and how their differing opinions and beliefs explain the unconscious woman and her rucksack of balls. Is she their fate or are they hers? What on earth they should do next?  All this via Arnold Bennett, Alan Bennett, Omelette, Hamlet, and Wet Wet Wet.

This tight four-hander uses its cast to reconfigure a back garden in Uxbridge, to a Boeing Dreamliner, to the pointy end of a luxury yacht, all with the minimum of fuss.  It uses and re-uses toys and Beano annuals throughout the three locations, and offers a director and cast opportunities to be creative with props and staging.

It’s a comedy but not a farce: it asks relevant questions of our four protagonists who, for once in their lives, have truly strayed outside their comfort zones.
