Our disturbing and brilliantly emotional play 'The Magdalen Whitewash' is set to be performed by students at Wakefield College in May as part of the College's 2012 Performing Arts Festival at the Theatre Royal, Wakefield.
The play (full length drama, large cast) is based on the true story of young girls being forced to work as drudges under dreadful conditions in laundries attached to churches in Ireland, being sent there, generally with the consent of their parents, for sins such as becoming pregnant or theft. The last of these laundries closed in the mid-1960's.
