These pages are demonstrators for the free Stagescripts Musical Development Showcase to be implemented later on a separate website.
The service, which will be strictly by invitation only, aims to be an aggregator of new or 'unknown' musicals acting as a catalyst to bring together those seeking to breathe life into their creativity with those who seek to produce or direct either a piece needing development, or a piece ready for a commercial production.
The Stagescripts Musical Development Showcase will be open to creative persons or teams who own(s) the copyright of a fully formed, but largely unperformed musical, written after 1st January 1990. By fully formed, we mean that it has a complete book and a set of accompanying songs, or for sung-through musicals, songs and recitative. It may be that the musical is in the early stage of development and will need further work to be undertaken on it, or the musical might have had a production (either professional or amateur) but nothing has happened to it since.
We will offer this as a free service to those invited to take part, but the creatives will be asked to enter into a simple contract with Stagescripts Ltd that requires he/she/them to enter into a more formal contract with Stagescripts Ltd for a publishing and 3 year rights-management contract following a professional production of any scale being given to the musical. The producer of that first production would therefore be assured that the musical is legally 'unencumbered' prior to any production they would want to stage, as well as during any subsequent restriction of rights period that the producer may insist upon should he want to produce it again within that defined period.
The entry for each musical will consist of:
To support the audiovisual media we will allow ...
Plans for later versions might include:-
a) the general public being able to register on the site and then to
i) give a star rating to the musical,
ii) to leave (moderated) comments, and
iii) to request to be advised of any forthcoming productions, thus forming a potential initial audience base.
b) Industry users being able to create an account, through which they would be able to access more information on each musical, (hopefully with a private star-ratings and comments area facility per musical), together with a means of contacting the creative team.
We plan to make the process easily accessible to amateur, educational or professional producers looking for material thus covering all sectors of the theatre industry.
If we become able to connect members of the public expresssing an interest in seeing the musical to potential producers, it would help to give them a view as to the potential marketability of a musical, and Stagescripts would be able to sell the producer a list of e-mail addresses to use for marketing purposes.
Other than the musical being in the showcase, Stagescripts will not be obliged to take any specific sales action with it (although it may do so), unless the creative team and/or Stagescripts so wish, in which case a rights-management contract will be required.
Please note that the demo material displayed is stock material in the Stagescripts catalogue and, for technical reasons, may exceed the 2-4-6 rule.
