'Six Of One...' is a collection of twelve plays in two volumes by Nicolas Ridley offering a range and variety of comedy from gentle farce, through simple sketch and conventional comedic drama, to tragicomedy.
Each play has a running time of 10-15 minutes which means that individual plays from the collection can be performed together (in any order) to provide a full evening's entertainment, Alternatively, selected plays can be chosen as part of a different programme.
All the pieces have single settings and require very little in the way of stage furniture and props. Simple sound effects will enhance the production in some cases but there is certainly no requirement for sophisticated stage lighting.
The total number of parts in the six plays of Volume 1 is 10m, 9f and 13m, 8f, 1m/f in Volume 2, but there is ample scope for doubling, trebling, and more! Some companies may choose to use an ensemble cast to allow individual actors to stretch themselves across several parts; others may wish to spread parts more widely. The collection may also provide an ideal opportunity for new directors to cut their directorial teeth on.
All the plays in the collection have been played successfully as full productions or as semi-staged 'script-in-hand' performances by professional and non-professional groups. The watchwords for 'Six Of One...' are: fun, flexibility, laughter, and one or two tears.
