Synopsis
The royal coffers of Pantomania are empty so the Queen decides that Prince Philo must marry someone wealthy. To impress her new neighbours, Maisy stupidly proclaims that her daughter can spin straw into gold! When the Queen hears of this, Mandy is given a spinning wheel, some straw and ordered to get on with it! The girl is visited by a strange little man who says he will spin gold for her in return for a gift. All are amazed when Mandy appears to have achieved the impossible.
To keep it in the family, the Queen orders Philo to marry Mandy. No problem, as they have already fallen in love. Two years pass, and the couple have a baby daughter Alice. By now the coffers are empty again and Mandy is ordered to produce more gold. The little man says he will help her in exchange for Alice! When Philo and Mandy refuse he sets them a task. If they can discover what his name is before midnight he will leave them alone. If they fail he will take their baby.
After a journey into the spooky forest, they discover that the little man’s name is Rumpelstiltskin. When they speak his name aloud, he disappears in a puff of smoke. But no more Rumpelstiltskin means no more gold! This is resolved when Marty announces that he’s found the little man’s cave filled with gold and treasure. |
