Synopsis
Helen and Gordon are on their balcony sipping gin and tonic. It's hot. Gordon is bored and Helen annoyed. Gordon leaves and Helen is on the phone to Alan - her lover? Gordon phones friend Dave - answerphone. Helen meets Cath, a younger sexy woman and talks to her briefly. Later Gordon meets Cath in a local bar and chats her up but protests innocence when she comes out as lesbian. He can't stop talking about her when back, very drunk, on the balcony. Helen and Cath meet again and Cath says she is bisexual and attracted to Helen, who is puzzled but interested.
Fast forward to Cath's bedroom in the same apartment block. Someone in her bed but the covers go back and we discover Gordon. How did that happen? Nothing did however and Cath is scornful. He goes back to his balcony quiet and reflective – Helen doesn't know why. Fast forward again and Helen emerges from the covers on Cath's bed. This time something has happened leaving both parties satisfied. Dope is introduced by Cath while, on his balcony, Gordon boasts to Dave about his sexy young mistress who he shags (!). Cath and Helen are stoned. Cath let's slip she slept with Gordon. They part with some bitterness.
Helen goes back to her flat and rows with Gordon over his having sex with Cath but also tells him she had sex with her. Gordon finds out she is also stoned, goes mad and heads off to Cath's apartment. He shouts at her, they struggle and Cath is thrown back on the bed, still. Did Gordon strangle her? Knock her against the bedpost? Panicked, he goes back to Helen, confesses to having killed Cath and begging for help. They fight over what next - the police? Make a run for it? Suddenly the door is hammered and Gordon slumps thinking the police have arrived. Helen answers and a furious Cath bounds into the room and starts whacking Gordon. She was just unconscious. Helen protects him and gets Cath out.
Next morning Helen tells Gordon she's leaving. He asks forgiveness for sleeping with Cath and trying to kill her but Helen says it's not to do with yesterday - she'd already decided. Gordon is devastated. Later Helen tells Cath she's off - perhaps around the world. Cath has fallen for Helen somewhat and is disappointed that sleeping with her husband has been enough to deter Helen.
Cath is heading back to England. We leave them with Gordon sipping drinks on the balcony, Cath heading for a plane somewhat sadly and Helen putting her shoulders back and heading out for exciting new adventures. We may be old but our lives are much as they were when we were young, full of wonky relationships, bad (and good) sex, a lot of alcohol and drugs. |
