Jam And Dame Judy

    by Diana Raffle

Synopsis

Comedic Drama Play: 'Green' by Les Clarke

‘Jam and Dame Judy’ is a comedic play set inside a tent at a village fair, and provides laughter, intrigue, and heartwarming moments, highlighting the spirit of community and the importance of honesty.

The village fair has various competitions, including the best floral arrangement, knitted garment, heaviest vegetable, and best jam or preserve. Roberta boasts about her theatrical experience and her encounters with Dame Judy Dench (“She once ate my macaroni cheese”), in an effort to emphasize her connection to the theatrical world and her supposed expertise.

However, Joyce suspects Roberta of cheating by stealing an onion from Ted's allotment. Sally, Ted's niece, reveals though that Roberta gave her thirty pounds for the onion, at which Joyce, Jim, and Bernard devise a plan to expose Roberta's cheating.

At the judging of the entries, Roberta is disqualified for swapping labels on her entries. Despite the disqualification, the villagers show compassion towards her, acknowledging her struggles and offering to help her improve her skills honestly. The play ends on a positive note, with the villagers celebrating their success and planning to support each other in future competitions.
