SynopsisA strange and absurd piece which will keep the audience guessing. A short but fast moving play that gives the opportunity for the cast to play more than one role. Kal and Missy come across a large blanket box but they are both convinced something, or someone is inside. They must face their innermost fears and call on their friend Tad. When he looks inside he is paralysed with fear – so what is in the box? When Tad comes round his friends appear to be dead and Nurse has called the Doctor, who has to sedate Tad for his own good before the Police arrive. When the Nurse returns there has been yet another murder. The Detective is rather confused as all three bodies seem to have disappeared and so there are more questions than answers. Is this really a psychiatric hospital? And who are the patients? Things take a further twist when little Georgie appears from the box and we are drawn into his strange and nightmarish childhood with a wicked mother and imaginary friends who bully him. Finally, Room No 5 is shown to be a room in a secure unit where George is watched by an eminent psychiatrist but as the characters come and go we ask ourselves who is real and who is a figment of someone’s imagination? This play asks questions about what reality and insanity might be but in a whimsical and bizarre way. A great play for festivals or part of a murder mystery evening. |
