![]() Emma became interested in the theatre from the age of 3, after seeing Tommy Steele in 'Hans Christian Anderson' at The Gaumont Theatre in Southampton (Now The Mayflower). As soon as he began singing 'Thumbelina' she knew that was the world she wanted to be in. She danced and sang from an early age, winning All England Competitions, and as she got older, her interest in theatre and acting became stronger, and she got involved in every workshop going, whether that be Drama, Dance or Music. She studied Performing Arts at Middlesex University, and, as part of the course, went on an exchange visit to Memphis State University, where not only did she get to sing on Beale Street, but was also able to work on a play called 'The Fools of Rozales' with an American Director called Ronlin Foreman. Her time in America was transformative, and made her believe that anything was possible. After university, she went on to work professionally in theatre, as a singer, on cruise ships, and on TV, but after 5 years realised that she got much more satisfaction from training others and seeing them achieve and fulfil their potential, and so she made a move into teaching. Emma has taught Drama to A-Level for 25 years, and along the way also taught Music and Media Studies to A-Level and a bit of dance where needed. Teaching has taken her to many places, notably to Hong Kong where she worked in an International School for 4 years. She is currently (at 2025) the Head of Drama in an Independent School in West Sussex, with her department being nominated for an Award in 2023. During her time in teaching she has devised and written many plays for young people, as well as directing and producing musicals. Alongside teaching, she has been an adjudicator for Rock Challenge; she ran her own successful Drama School for 7 years; and is now an examiner for GCSE and A-Level Drama. Playwriting was always something that she had been interested in, but never had the time to fulfil, and one day she decided to challenge that theory, and started to formally write. From that decision 'Jesse and the Bookkeepers' was born - and she’s loved it! |
