Synopsis
Set in 1958 the play follows the fortunes of two young men from opposite poles of the social spectrum who are amongst the last to be called up for national service. Tom is a successful graduate and a conscientious objector but faces up to the experience with quiet resolve.
Les comes from a military family and thinks he can buck the system by facing up to authority. He is a street trader from the East End of London with a street wise sense of humour.
They come up against DI Evans at basic training who has strict methods of changing boys into men.
The experience changes the boy’s lives and has far reaching effects on their families. |
