Edwards, Tony

Tony Edwards

edwards-tony.jpg

Tony Edwards began his theatrical career over 45 years ago when he was asked to write a children’s show for the Balloon Theatre in Christchurch, Dorset, England.

Since then, he has written over 20 children’s plays, all of which have been performed in the Balloon Theatre between 1975 and 1993, when it closed down. They are still being performed locally, throughout the country, and now, via the Internet, throughout the world. Other works include short stories, many one act plays (mainly comedy), and a number of musicals and pantomimes, including the music and lyrics for the numerous songs involved in such shows. A number of his plays have won awards in local and national competitions, and he himself is an award-winning actor and director.  He was Chairman of the Balloon Theatre for 4 years.

He has often performed in films for the students from the local and very prestigious Bournemouth University - training films for local businesses and companies - and a TV drama.  He was also involved in the making of 2 very successful films for the deaf that have been distributed country and worldwide.

Tony still acts with and writes for the very high-quality amateur All Saints Dramatic Society in Christchurch. He also works with the professional theatre company, Lyrics and Laughter Productions based in New Milton, Hants. They have just completed working on a variety touring show, in which just 2 actors, Tony and his colleague, depict 24 celebrities (famous comedy duos and solo acts) in a ‘Comedy Classics’ show (sub titled ‘Just The Two Of Us’).
