This hilarious first play by David Challenger & Adam J Watts centres around one man’s misguided attempts to take on the management of a home for the elderly.
Reluctantly put into the accommodation by his son, Harry - a Falklands war veteran - uses his military training, along with the help of two other ex- army residents, to try and beat the system. This newly-formed band of brothers meet considerable resistance from Eva, the manageress who just-so-happens to be married to an Argentinean! Just when Harry thought things couldn’t get any worse...
Enter the underhanded handyman, Lance, who proclaims to be an American, but is far from what he actually seems. Some might call him a fixer, but that isn’t necessarily the word Harry has in mind, as he and the 'mixer' take an instant dislike to one another.
Mishap follows mishap, but our protagonist is a determined man, even if he is handicapped by his chums. Despite everything, Harry will become a hero when he thwarts the impending closure of the retirement home. The icing on the cake comes in the form of ousting Lance as an impostor.
Every page of this comedy play has a titter or a full-blown belly laugh and there are twists and turns to keep the audience engaged. The characters are real and in places carry the underlying message of sincerity that is so often just beneath the surface when considering the latter years of life.
