Ron Nicol |
Ron Nicol is an award-winning playwright published in the UK, the USA, and in the Netherlands in Dutch. There have been over 500 productions of his plays and pantomimes, with performances in Britain, Ireland, America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Holland, Germany, Spain, Luxembourg and Hong Kong. Productions of his one-act plays have won many awards at festivals in the UK, Ireland, the USA and Canada. Ron became a member of the Lyric Players while he was a student at Queen's University Belfast, going on to spend several years in professional theatre. He worked in repertory, pantomime, music hall, variety and with touring productions as an actor, stage manager and stage director at Perth Theatre, Lincoln Theatre Royal, Harrogate Theatre and York Theatre Royal, and as production manager with John Ridley Projects at Chelmsford Civic Theatre. Now based in Fife, Scotland, he has trained radio broadcasters at Glenrothes College, lectured in theatre with the University of St Andrews Adult Education Department, produced and presented a weekly programme on Radio Tay's Campus Radio, and was an adviser for the Scottish Community Drama Association. A member of the Guild of Drama Adjudicators, he's been adjudicating drama festivals since 1995. Ron has a BA from Queen's University, Belfast, a post-graduate teaching qualification from Moray House College of Education, Edinburgh and is a Licentiate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London. In 1978 he co-founded Glenrothes Theatre Company with his wife Norma, a former professional actress, and writes and directs most of their productions. |
